Is that freely licensed? MapQuest tiles are likely not?! Hmm --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 10:39, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Well it uses Mapquest Open tiles in the faded out background there. These are Featured tiles. I guess technically they haven't stated explicitly enough as they transitioned through the license change, what is the license for their "produce work" tiles (previously it was all just CCBYSA openstreetmap). They do explicitly open license the Mapnik stylesheet. Maybe User:Matt or someone from Mapquest can confirm, but... safe to say their tiles are intended to be open. It is "mapquest open" after all. -- Harry Wood (talk) 12:18, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
Yup, the tiles are intended to be open, and the terms of use are basically that, in addition to the OSM attribution, we ask for MQ to be attributed too. (Sorry for the late reply, btw...) --Matt (talk) 15:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Thank you Matt! :-) The link is very helpful! However, I think it is not really made clear: "are available for use" it says ... what does "use" mean? Does that only mean that someone may "display" (under the given conditions) or also edit, mix with other works (which is an essential attribute of free content)? --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 22:55, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
