Public domain

Can somebody contact Ken Vermette? I think this logo should be released in the public domain if possible, since is not technically possible to write "CC BY-SA Ken Vermette" under every single OSM logo in every single website in the world. Note: this is perfectly compatible with the template "OpenStreetMap trademark". --Valeriobozz (talk) 15:58, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

@Valeriobozz: Thanks for bringing this up. The OSMF's Licensing Working Group would probably be the right group to contact. Back in June, the board declined to pursue the matter, but if someone makes a strong case for why it matters, then maybe the board would reconsider. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 02:04, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

Binary numbers could have a real meaning

The current numbers reflecting on the magnifying glass of the logo means nothing:

  • 01011001
  • 00110101
  • 10010011

I propose to change them to have a meaning, like the binary representation of the letters OSM:

  • 01001111
  • 01010011
  • 01001101

I created a project to do some small changes in the logo: https://github.com/angoca/Update-OSM-logo
I also shared the idea on https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/binary-numbers-on-osm-logo-could-be-changed-to-have-a-real-meaning/100498/2 AngocA (talk) 22:53, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
