Include one-click unsubscribe button

A frequent question on OSM mailing lists is "please unsubscribe me". Then there's always someone explaining how to do this. But a lot of people probably don't bother, and just mark messages as spam (which increases probability that OSM messages are marked as spam for everyone). From the first few hits on Google, it looks simple to add a one click unsubscribe link to the messages. But maybe not so simple in practice? Joost schouppe (talk) 07:29, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

A button is probably not possible in plaintext mails (as opposed to HTML mails), but adding an "unsubscribe" link to the bottom of each mail should be standard. Frankly, I'm surprised that there isn't already one. --Tordanik 14:02, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Why a separate page for Mailing lists and Contact?

This is probably a stupid newbiew question but I don't get it. Seems like duplication of information to me. Could Mailing lists be merged with Contact into Contact#Mailing_lists? --Jaakko 18:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I'd prefer keeping Mailing lists and removing the table from Contact. It claims far too much room at the top of what is supposed to be an overview page, and would become even longer if we added all the additional information from Mailing lists there. --Tordanik 12:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Using listinfo

Is it possible, and easy, to just incorporate the listinfo index page into this page? I think this would be better rather than maintaining a separate wiki list.--Sward 00:28, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

I've put the list of mailing lists into a table, but someone else will have to add the flags Avantman42 22:17, 8 April 2007 (BST)

In retrospect it seems you would have had to do it yourself if you really wanted flags… —-Dieterdreist (talk) 20:11, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

2010 discussion about the talk list

Some historic wiki discussion about the talk mailing list can be found at Mailing lists/Talk discussion.

Restructuring

I propose to split the list on one hand along the language of topic lists and on the other hand based on the provider. The first grouping is proposed by the intro section focussing on OSMF lists only. The second is needed to clarify the unclear grouping of local language lists. Some are in the "country" section others in the "topic" section. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 00:21, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Add Code of Conduct column

A number of mailing lists have a code of conduct. I propose adding a column to indicate if the list has a code of conduct as well as linking to the code of conduct. Glassman (talk) 16:06, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 08:58, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Search mailing lists

I get a 404 when I try to use Mailbox, and the Google link doesn't seem to work that well either. Are these still good ways of searching the archives if no Nabble etc is listed?eteb3 (talk) 17:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Statistics for each group

Looking at e.g., https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo there is no way to tell what lists are hot, and what are not. (Except for HOT itself, ha ha.)

E.g., to check if the archiver is dead, one would want to check a busy group's archives. But there is no way to see which group gets/got the most posts. Jidanni (talk) 19:58, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes, the list software is very poor which is why some folks are exploring the use of Discourse as a possible replacement for the mailing lists and/or the forum. The list moderators are able to see how many subscribers are on each list. For example, as of yesterday, it was reported that talk-us had 516 subscribers, dev had 1,105 subscribers, and imports had 594 subscribers. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 21:57, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

How to become Admin of a Mailing list?

I would like to become Admin of an admin list, however, I do not see the procedure for this. Can someone explain me this? AngocA (talk) 16:39, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Interesting question. I asked your question at https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/84781/how-to-become-admin-of-a-mailing-list. Hope this helps. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 18:13, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
