Josh Levinger

I'm a student at the MIT Media Lab in the Computing Culture Group and the Center for Future Civic Media.

In January 2009 I built a website to gather civilian stories and testimony during the siege on Gaza. Virtual Gaza was a small attempt to help break the information blockade.

Now I am working on a project to map the changing topologies of the Occupied Territories: road restrictions, checkpoints, the security barrier, settlements, water rights, etc. While much of this data is already gathered by various NGOs, the maps they provide are static and often out of date. Using these datasets as a starting point, I want to enable people on the ground to update the maps with timely local knowledge.
