The use of the word "western" is criticized, but there exist no better known alternative.

Indicates whether object is related to the [W] western medical system.

This system is used worldwide, even in countries, which also teaches their traditional medical system at universities (e.g. in China or India). It has a foundation based on anatomy and physiology and is often evidence-based. Other (mostly derogatory) labels are school medicine and [W] allopathic medicine, as well as (laudatory, but equally misleading) terms [W] modern medicine and [W] science-based medicine.
