MapUp, a Silicon Valley startup, provides an innovative mapping platform and software-defined tolling solutions. MapUp's AI-based solution provides toll intelligence, route optimisation, toll billing, and toll reconciliations, allowing fleet managers to make decisions and streamline operations.
Project Overview
MapUp is undertaking a project to enhance truck routing accuracy and toll road information by integrating better road restriction data and toll road information from primary sources. Our goal is to improve the accuracy of truck routes and toll road details on OpenStreetMap. We'll update road info to show truck access limits and toll details correctly, making sure the maps are always up-to-date and reliable for everyone to use.
Geographical Scope
MapUp is enhancing toll road information worldwide, wherever toll roads exist. Additionally, we're expanding to include truck access information globally starting from the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, etc.
Span
While the project began in August 2020, significant changes started in the last 2 years. We're now actively updating toll road information on OSM and incorporating truck restrictions on roads with a team of improved and well-trained mappers.
Changesets
The edits primarily consist of correcting toll road geometries and adding tags like toll, fee, payment, hgv, goods, maxheight, maxweight, maxwidth, maxlength, and similar attributes.
Tools and data sources
We will utilise JOSM, standard editor tools and leverage publicly accessible information to guide our map editing process. Our edits will be informed by official sources that specifically outline truck routing restrictions, ensuring accuracy and reliability in our mapping efforts.

Editing Team
Apart from a small dedicated editing team, many other members of the MapUp team engage in personal mapping activities on OpenStreetMap as a hobby. These individuals are not included in the listed editing team. Additionally, some of the mappers listed here contribute to OpenStreetMap not exclusively for MapUp; they also pursue their own mapping interests outside of their work with MapUp.
