Bandwidth Limit Exceeded

Rate limiting OSM API Changeset Uploads

Rate limiting is a feature of the OpenStreetMap API which returns an HTTP 429 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded response code when a user tries to upload more changes than allowed. Your current quota depends on a number of factors, such as the age of your user account, the number of things changed (not the number of Changesets), and other factors, which have been deemed relevant in this context. Please note that the way in which quotas are calculated may change at any time without prior notice.

If you got this error, it is usually best to take a break from mapping and try to upload your changes again a bit later.

Import accounts

If you intend to upload large amounts of data, you can reach out to the Data Working Group to flag your account as an "import" account.
