Language tagging?

I think it would be good to be able to distinguish between different language services in the same religious building. On https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/56206112 I have used service_times:ar and service_times:ja for services in Arabic and Japanese along with plain service_times for the main (in this case French-language) services appropriate for the region. --Gpvos (talk) 13:15, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Examples & Proper Usage

It would be nice if this could include more examples and further discussion of proper usage. For example, often there is a need to input multiple services on the same day. What is the proper syntax for that? It appears that the common practice currently is to simple use a comma and no space (e.g. Su 09:00,10:30). Also, from the taginfo page, it appears that most people are not using a space but an underscore between the day and the time (e.g. Su_09:00). Is that correct? If so, what if you have multiple services should you use an underscore for each time or just one per day (e.g. Su_09:00,10:30 or Su_09:00,_10:30)? --MRPockets (talk) 04:39, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

There's a lot of examples if you follow the link under #Tagging Syntax to Key:opening_hours. Comma without space is fine, it means exactly the same as comma with space; choose what you think is clearer. Underscores are not accepted syntax as far as I know. On the taginfo page I don't see any underscores; in the "Su␣10:00" shown there, the "␣" signifies a space character. Gpvos (talk) 10:10, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Religious services

Is it established/documented somewhere what should be tagged in service_times in case of church having various services, not only Mass?

For example adoration/vespers etc

There is https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/service_times%3Amass but used 2 times worldwide Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:47, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, service_times=* is undifferentiated: any kind of service counts. There is some usage of "quoted descriptions", which is allowed by the opening_hours=* syntax, as well as subkeys. But I think it would be challenging to document all the possible subkeys, because every religion and denomination has distinct kinds of services. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 09:58, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, innventing all possible subkeys before they are in use seems pointless, there is too much of potential variations - and hard to predict what will be actually tagged... Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:28, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
