What about donkeys?

Do donkeys also live in stables? Should we tag the building with something like building=stable and animal=donkey? Or use an entirely different tag? --Taktaal (talk) 09:44, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Similar Problem: Goats and sheep

In the southern mediterranean, you find many buildings used to house animals, in Greece and Cyprus mostly sheep and goats. In German language, every agricultural building housing animals is referred to as "Stall", in the english language explanations, I find that the word stable is only used for horses. The bulding for goats is translated as "goat shed". What to do, I cannot tag them as cowsheds or sty. If the tag should be only used for horse stables, in the German translation it should be referred to as "Pferdestall". But in that case, we would need a generic tag for agricultural buildings housing animals (to be used for goats, sheep, chicken, donkeys and so on...); in my eyes it's not a barn, because t least in the german language use, a barn is used to store something, but not animals... - what do you think about this? - Mboesch (talk) 18:55, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

A while ago there was a discussion on the tagging mailing list about this problem; I don't remember the details but perhaps it can help you somehow: [1][2]. --Hufkratzer (talk) 20:20, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
I agree, it'd be a lot cleaner if stable/cowshed/sty were combined into a single tag with like animal=horse/cow/pig --Taktaal (talk) 21:12, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Another, newer discussion: Stable only for horses? in the communuty forum. --Hufkratzer (talk) 21:05, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
