salt

@Jeisenbe: Hi, I would like to know what is the source of the information "in a tidal channel the water flowing towards the sea at low tide is often slightly higher in salinity than the open sea water, due to evaporation, especially in mangroves and subtropical salt marshes". Best regards. Fred73000 (talk) 16:44, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't remember exactly where I learned this, but there are many articles which mention that some mangrove environments reach up to double the salinity of the open sea. This is caused by evaporation of water but also by transpiration of water from the leaves of the mangroves, which leaves the remaining salt more concentrated. E.g. http://mangrove.nus.edu.sg/guidebooks/text/1011c.htm and https://ocean.si.edu/ocean-life/plants-algae/mangroves and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangrove_forest --Jeisenbe (talk) 15:57, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
