Welcome to OpenStreetMap

Hello Abunai, and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Here are some tips to help you make the most from OSM:

  • Please don't use copyrighted maps as a data source for OpenStreetMap edits
  • To meet other mappers from your country, add these lines to your wiki userpage:
    [[Category:Users in your country|Abunai]]
    [[Category:Users in your city|Abunai]]
  • Join your regional mailing list
  • Take a look at the Beginners' guide
  • And if you have any questions, look at the FAQ page, or just ask!

Have fun mapping!

Amenity=clock

Hallo.

Viele Grüße, --BlackBike 20:00, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Schön, dass du mitmachen kannst! Ich habe dir geschrieben. --abunai 22:23, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Dear abunai, concerning your message to me Gerhard :

""Hi, I removed your edit from Open Data License/Use Cases because that page is intended for Use Cases for the license. A question similar to yours has been raised at Open_Data_License/Open_Issues#Approval_from_large_donated_datasets. The answer to that question isn't clear yet. --abunai 21:44, 2 March 2009 (UTC) ""

  • chrmphf, ouh ??? -> "Thank you" for throwing out me and my question, and to decide in my place, what might be simililar or important.

Doesn't such way and mean, to govern questions and answers, remind something ? We're "D-day" anniversary, they stopped'em 65 years ago. Also, there was something called "human rights" which introduced equity. Many constitutional laws said, that nobody could be obliged to sign at his own disadvantage.

At what state is that "new licence" thing, now ?

I think that it is not up to OSM participants to decide, wether or not the donators of datasets agree, or not agree, to the new licence. This decision belongs to the donator. In France we got many donators of such datasets, negociations are under way for new ones. Some agreements, as for "cadastre", do not refer to osm's licence, but many others do. I'm not sure that the pals which invested time and efforts into those negotiations, would be ready to restart negociations, for the new licence. Moreover, they'll encounter difficulties : The cc-by-sa is well known, whereas the new licence is unknown to the donators (officials, public departements...), so those must involve the laws departements (is there a french translation of the new licence ? They won't bother nor take the risk, to translate it themselves). I do not participate in osm licence discussion lists (no time free), but I feel that this "new licence" thing was mounted without connecting the brain, without thinking of the hundreds and thousands participants to OSM "out there".

:-( Gerhard 6th, june 2009

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:Landsberg.jpg ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Help

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)
