Adding Wikidata codes

Hi ENT8R, could you kindly explain the purpose of adding so many wikidata codes? As I understand, wikidata helps to cross-link a concept across platforms. So when I follow the wikidata for stadium, I get wikipedia articles in many languages, etc.

However, what value does it have to create wikidata numbers for concepts that exist only in OSM? E.g. for shop=hairdresser_supply, you created the wikidata entry just for having the number in OSM, there is no cross-linking to other things. --Polarbear w (talk) 18:06, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

I added those values because I wanted to create a tag dictionary using WikiData. It should give the possiblity to translate OSM tags and keys into real names and words... Regarding your example: I thought that WikiData is a collaborative project and everybody can add data whenever he wants and others can contribute a little bit more to a specific item to make it more complete... And it has at least cross-linking to three other items... I thought that more are simply added over time... --ENT8R 19:06, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for letting us know about your project, it sounds very interesting, and now the new values make much more sense to me! --Polarbear w (talk) 00:29, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi ENT8R, adding Wikidata items is helpful, but they are supposed to be a 1:1 match, rather than a loosely related link. Among some other additions of yours, I had to revert the Wikidata entry at building=hospital, as the tag is used for hospital buildings, not hospitals (that would be amenity=hospital). If you disagree, let's discuss this, but please don't just add it again. --Tordanik 17:54, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Oops... Sorry about that... I thought I didn't add a wikidata entry for that and I didn't know that you have been deleting it with a reason. I agree, they shouldn't be loosely related. Perhaps I was just confused by the German wording which contains the English "house". ENT8R (talk) 19:45, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Wikidata tag for tourism=wilderness_hut

Thanks for adding the Wikidata tags. For Tag:tourism=wilderness hut, Q17087359 (wilderness hut) or Q39425 (bothy) would be better than the one you added, Q182676 (mountain hut, the same as tourism=alpine_hut).--Lakedistrict (talk) 21:59, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Oh yes, I already thought that this needs some improvement. Thank you for searching the right WikiData items! I changed tourism=wilderness_hut to Q39425 (bothy)! Thank you for pointing this out! ENT8R (talk) 10:08, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out to me. I looked at the source code again and it looks like the side-effects of using the from parameter without explicitly specifying the sort and/or order are not documented in the Wiki right now. The issue is that in order to achieve backwards compatibility with previous states of the API (where sort and order did not exist yet), when using from to limit the results to a specific date range, this range is applied to the creation date of notes by default (necessary to keep old behavior) while the sorting happens based on the last update of the notes by default. This might lead to the confusion in the linked issue because it is not very clear which date (either creation date or last update) is used to apply the date range to when omitting the sort parameter. --ENT8R (talk) 16:14, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
