August 17, 2023 regular meeting of the OpenStreetMap United States Board of Directors

Call to Order

Diane called the meeting to order at 3:00pm, Eastern, via video conference.

Present:

  • Maggie Cawley (Executive Director)
  • Diane Fritz (President)
  • Brian Sperlongano (Vice President)
  • Adam Franco (Treasurer)
  • Matthew Whilden (Secretary)
  • Priyanka Miller (At Large)

Reports

  • The Executive Director (ED) provided an update to the board on OSM US’s activities over the prior month.
    • Frist Strategic Organization membership, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 5 years at $40,000 per year
    • In discussion with Microsoft about sponsorship
    • Annual report for 2022 has been drafted
    • Imagery meeting - coordinating with folks to see how best to improve imagery options for broader OSM
    • FEMA, UVA project related to Disaster Risk Zones. Upcoming Mappy hour.

Old Business

  • SOTM Global dates/SOTMUS
    • Dates discussion. Old possible date near OSMF State of the Map. Maybe move to June (Trails Day!).
  • FOSS4G Baltimore, maybe get a table there. Maybe Diane goes?

New Business

  • Slack users discussion. Nearing 250 active Slack users, could mean higher tier pricing ($13.05/year/active user).
    • Staff will do a Slack audit for usage not in line with our goals.
  • Imagery
    • An important issue for US but lower impact relative to global concerns due to diversity of imagery available in the US.
    • Can get collaborators and coordinators
  • Denver Post interviewed Maggie about Trails Stewardship Initiative.
  • SECAS - presentation given to them and potential partner for PD map
  • PATC - maybe replace their in house GIS stack with OSM
