Proposal

bike_friend=yes describes a location which is certified bicycle friendly.

Rationale

Regional tourism boards or other organisations make certification programmes for bicycle friendly locations, e.g. camp sites, hotels, shops, etc. This tag can be useful for cyclists and can be used as POI's in bicycle route planning software.

Usage

What merrits certification is defined by the issuing organisation, but is as a minimum expected to be: free access to a bicycle pump and tools for repairing a flat tire.

Only bicycle friendly places that have a visible certificate on site in the physical world should be tagged. This will typically be in the form of an official sticker, poster, plaque, etc.

Examples

Example (in Danish): http://www.visitsvendborg.dk/svendborg/bike-friends-cykelvenner

Tagging

The tag will typcally be added to existing tags. Often in the tourism=*, shop=* or amenity=* categories.

The naming of the tag stems from the first real world example known to the author, mentioned in the above paragraph. The author is aware that this is somewhat in conflict with naming best practices, where efforts should be made to distinguish between tags for bicycles and motorcycles, by not using the generic term 'bike'. On the other hand the concrete certification programme being tagged is called 'Bike Friends', which in the eyes of the author makes the proposed tag the most logical.
