A static synchronous compensator is an alternative voltage regulation system intended to compensate reactive power.
This documentation remains to be completed with practical constitution and differences with static_var.

The mostly operates at a lower voltage than the grid they compensate. A dedicated (not particular) transformer=compensator isolates and lower this voltage upstream of SVC.

They are mainly found in substations, in modern power grids.

Possible confusion with static_var

According to this documentation and visual look, statcom can be mistaken with static_var which is a different compensation mean.

Static compensators are based on DC voltage source converters whereas SVC is an arrangement of different systems, thyristor switched or fixed.
Local signage or public documentation could make it clear between both.
Examples below could also show the difference, when completed.

How to map

First of all, please refer to general guidelines on power=compensator.

Static synchronous compensators may be wide and contained in a barrier=fence area. You will find buildings and several devices inside.
Mapping them as areas enable to document visible and independent subsystems outside, like transformer=compensator.
All components' nodes are linked with internal power lines with 1 or more cables=*.
