Strassenliste?

How do you come by the Strassenliste? What source? -- Harry Wood 17:38, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Harry! Different ways. I know the following:
  1. Write to the local authorities and ask for allowance for quality assurance of OSM
  2. Get the data from an official published statement of the local authorities (e.g. street-cleaning directories, districts for the election, etc.) such official published statements are AFAIK public domain in Germany.
  3. Ask private data owner
As an outcome we have two kinds of "allowances": One is just use the streetlist internally (we usually mange this by a password restricted statistics area and show only the sum-up on public pages). The other is that we are also allowed to re-publish the streetlist, which makes it easier for us. --Rotbarsch 12:31, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Cool. In the UK we have a few towns which we reckon are "complete", Cambridge for example. But we haven't checked if it is complete. We should probably get hold of some Strassenliste. I remember some discussion of local council street lists which could be used for checking off what's done. I think it was decided not to use them in the end. The idea of a "password restricted statistics area" is interesting. -- Harry Wood 14:03, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Tell them that they get feedback (if they want) about missing street signs and bugs in their directory, because we try to find every street in real nature. --Rotbarsch 14:07, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah it turns out Peter Reed has done some work on these kinds of comparison using UK department of transport data: mailing list post -- Harry Wood 18:11, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
As an update to my old comment about the UK, nowadays we do systematic completeness measuring in the UK using OS Locator data. In particular ITO World's OSM and OSL differences analysis breaks it down by council district (but not by city) -- Harry Wood (talk) 18:08, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Wiki maintained list up-to-date?

I feel like this list should include more world cities, or be renamed as "german cities hall of fame", but...

Is this list up-to-date? Wiki maintained lists like this tend to go out of date too easily. Of course adding more cities would increase the maintenance problem.
