Bitcoin example removed

If you don't mind, i have removed the "BTC" example because it is not part of the ISO 4712 standard and therefore it doesn't fit to the definition of this tag. According to taginfo, currency:BTC=* is used exactly zero times.

I suggest if anyone wants to allow non-ISO-4712 currency codes we should document each of them explicitly in this wiki page. So far I haven't seen any need for this. In case this need comes up some day, feel free to drop a message here. --Wuzzy 19:24, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

I've just added a note for Bitcoin. --Stemby (talk) 17:28, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Community Currencies

How should we tag them? It seems to be interesting if they are accepted. They don't have ISO-Abbreviations and won't get them. see Wikipedia --Lattenzaun (talk) 18:29, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Indeed. I'd propose using XLC (Local Currency) as a common prefix plus some other key, but then someone should handle a registry. See also Talk:Key:payment#Local_currencies. Mmu man (talk) 23:37, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
For info, I started to use the tags proposed here User:FrViPofm/Key:local_currency to add local currencies in Belgium (User:Vucodil/Local_currencies_in_Belgium) --Vucodil (talk) 13:40, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
