What about other sports?

For example there exist waterski lifts that are pretty much identical to what is described here. The only difference is that the user holds a handle in her hands instead of some kind of bar behind the butt (maybe Tag:aerialway:drag_lift=handle?). I would argue that using this tag in combination with Tag:sport=water_ski would be the most viable option to tag it. To that end, we should document this here. --Stefanct (talk) 02:07, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Waterski lifts (continued)

In order to describe/characterize waterski lifts, a better solution would be a specific value on the aerialway tag itself, for two reasons :

  1. removing the often irrelevant "water_ski" sport tag value because water skiing on these devices has become a minor practice (using water skis for training beginners, on full-size systems only, impossible on 2-tower ones because turning around at the end is impossible ; traditional waterskiing reserved to professionals on full-size systems as well as on specialty heavy-duty 2-tower devices, because of safety concerns caused by higher speeds)
  2. moving the distinctive features of this kind of device (the handle bar, as well as the main mechanism) into the aerialway tag

Therefore, why not use Tag:aerialway=waterski_lift (after the original name of the device, even if less and less related to waterskiing), or Tag:aerialway=wakeboard_cable or more shortly Tag:aerialway=wake_cable, because wakeboarders nowadays use the word "cable" for naming the whole machine.

"detachable" property

Would it be useful to create a new tag, named "detachable", with a boolean value (yes/no or true/false), because several kinds of drag lifts do exist in the two variants, i.e. with their carried items permanently fixed on the running cable, or which can be disengaged. Use cases : chairlifts, mountain ski lifts for individual skiers, waterski lifts (full-size VS 2-tower variant) On some other kinds of drag lifts, it may however not be relevant, or constrained in a single value (e.g. gondola lifts are always detachable)
