FAQ#Why are you making OpenStreetMap? is copied from here (or here is copied from there). And actually the FAQ page is more useful, because it follows this up with other important questions. As things stand, it would be an improvement to delete this page, and point everything to that FAQ entry instead.
Alternatively we could try to expand upon this and make it a more worthwhile page in its own right (and in a different not-Q&A format)
We need to bare in mind that this is an important bit of "marketing copy", in that it is prominently linked from the About page.

Missing mention of the wiki aspect
There's two principle reasons for OSM (two "unique selling points" you might say) :
- Create a map which is open licensed
- Create a wiki-like systems to create/maintain the map as a community.
Think User:Steve mentions the second point in his presentations on OSM actually, but it's not mentioned here.

Copyright restrictions
The current page says, "The USA is the only major counter-example where due to copyright restrictions on the government, they have to give it away free." Actually, there's no such restriction; the U.S. government is simply not entitled to copyright for work done by government employees. Mattflaschen 03:27, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
